A brief history
On March 2nd of 2000 we launched “The Uptown Downtown Show” hosted by
“Holleywood” & “Brewski” airing every Thursday 8pm to midnight on a local AM radio station. The station allowed us to play and promote any music and guests we desired and we were “no holds barred” as they say.
We then changed our schedule (per the stations request) and aired 2 nights a week (Tues & Thurs) from 8pm to10pm. Soon after that, we turned to a different broadcasting station (also AM because that is the only stations we can find in this town that would let us buy air-time for a show like this) in an attempt to strengthen our range in audience.
This station had different standards however and they wanted our show to contain less music and more talk because it was a talk radio station. We reluctantly decided to re-format the show so we could still promote local entertainers on commer
cial radio.
We changed the name to “Florid-Alive Entertainment News Radio” and it worked well with listeners...but we needed advertisers to keep it going. The station executives were very happy with our production and performance but we needed revenue to survive. We eventually turned to the internet.
We gained a huge amount of experience doing live commercial radio for 5 years but now we got our old show back. We are not worried about the bills and we can produce our show the way we want to. We want to provide you with unheard information, new talent and entertainment that some of the family can enjoy.
“Holleywood” was born May 1962 in Texas, moved to Florida in 1977. He got his first stage experience at 7 years old as emcee of the school talent show. In junior high and high school he played all single reed wood, wind and all three valve brass instruments. As an adult he performed voiceovers for a major nation retailer, owned businesses for more than twenty years and sat on the board of directors for a Tampa Bay area community service/charity organization.Since 2000 “Holleywood” has hosted over 300 radio shows, numerous live band showcases, emceed several weddings, corporate events, parties and charities. He has even performed live stand-up comedy at Coconut’s Comedy Club.
“Brewski” was born in Long Island, NY June 1969, moved to Florida as an infant. His father purchased his 1st guitar for him on his 11th birthday. He started performing live at the age of 19 and began producing his original material and other artists in 1995. He won an audition on 98 Rock as a “DJ from hell” in 96 and released a compilation CD of Local Floridian bands entitled "The Circus under the Bay" in 1998. He was a local music scene columnist for Groove Magazine in 1999 and eventually got re-involved with radio in 2000.
